Five undergraduate students from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences have been inducted into the NSU chapter of Rho Rho Rho. The marine science national honor society recognizes top students enrolled in the college’s marine biology classes.

Marine biology majors Francesca Fourney, Emma Magner, Erin Nassif, and Brittany Serafin were honored during an induction ceremony at NSU on Feb. 21. Also inducted, but unable to attend the ceremony, was Kayla Caldwell.

After opening remarks from Joshua Feingold, Ph.D., faculty adviser for Rho Rho Rho and associate professor in the college, Rho Rho Rho president Amanda Sylvester read the society’s constitution. The inductees then each pledged to promote academic excellence and interest in the marine sciences. They also received certificates of induction and hand-painted shells (crafted by current members) as symbols of their commitment to the field.

The inductees were joined in celebration by friends and family members; current society members; and the chapter’s founding members, NSU alumni Tandace Burkhart, Mary Crider, and Sharein El-Tourky.

By providing an incentive for students to excel, Rho Rho Rho aims to attract more marine biology majors and minors to NSU and create a more dynamic experience for the current students. Rho Rho Rho’s Alpha chapter was founded at the University of Miami in 1990, and its Beta chapter was established at NSU in September 2008. The two chapters participate in shared events.
