FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern women’s basketball starting guard Claire McMahon received her first weekly honor by the Sunshine State Conference on Wednesday afternoon, capturing the Defensive Player of the Week title after the opening week of league play.
McMahon helped Nova Southeastern to a 1-1 weekend by averaging 6.5 rebounds in two SSC games. She also tallied a team-high six blocks along with two steals.
In a win over Barry (62-51), the redshirt-sophomore tallied five blocks, her second five-block effort in three games, becoming just the fifth player in program history to accomplish the feat twice in a career, joining NSU Sharks Class of 2017 Hall of Fame inductee Stephanie Sarosi (2008-2011), Sharnel Carr (6, 1998-2000), Charity Rainey (5, 2002-2003) and Jessica Pate (2, 2001-2002). She also added 10 points and eight rebounds in the victory.
In a loss to Embry-Riddle (64-55), the Frankfort, Ill. product had eight points, five rebounds, and a blocked shot.
The Sharks will continue conference play this weekend, traveling to Saint Leo, Fla. to take on the host Lions at 5:30 p.m.
