New Federal Standards Could Affect Your Financial Aid

Dear NSU Student:

In order to receive financial assistance, a student must meet standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). According to new federal regulations, effective July 1, 2011, NSU has established new university-wide quantitative, qualitative, maximum timeframe, and pace SAP requirements.

In the past, the NSU Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) only measured SAP for undergraduate, master, and specialist students. With the new policy, students in all academic programs will be evaluated for SAP.

Students who fail to meet SAP during the 2011-2012 academic year will not be eligible for Title IV federal and Florida state financial aid during the 2012-2013 academic year. The government requires that institutions establish SAP standards to ensure financial aid recipients are progressing toward completion of an academic program or degree.

Comprehensive information is available on our financial aid Web site at http://www.nova.edu/sap/.

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the new SAP requirements for your program of study.

For questions, please contact your academic advisor or the OSFA by telephone at 866-775-3575 or (954) 262-2427 (designated SAP service line), by email at finaid@nova.edu, in person at the One-Stop Shop located in the Horvitz and Terry Administration Buildings, or at your local Student Educational Center.

Sincerely,
