MELBOURNE, Fla. – After guiding Nova Southeastern to a pair of road wins, junior Emma Heikkila has been named the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
The native of Tornio, Finland recorded a combined three goals against both Palm Beach Atlantic and Saint Leo to raise her team-leading total to eight this season. In last Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over the Sailfish, Heikkila opened the scoring before later tallying the game-winner in the 86th minute as Nova Southeastern overcame a 2-1 second-half deficit. Three nights later, she found the back of the net in the first half to lead the Sharks to an eventual 2-0 shutout versus the Lions.
Heikkila has tallied at least one point in four straight matches, and now ranks among the Top-3 in the SSC in both goals (8) and points (20).
Heikkila and the Sharks will return to the pitch at home this Saturday at 7 p.m. against Eckerd. For complete coverage of the action, visit the schedule page at NSUSharks.com or follow the Sharks on Twitter at @NSU_WSoccer.
