NORMAN, Okla. – Following standout seasons as the unquestioned leaders of the Nova Southeastern men’s golf team, both Juan Jose Guerra and Finlay Mason have been selected as Division II PING All-Americans, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Guerra collects his third honor in as many years by landing on the third team, while Mason earns his first career recognition after being named honorable mention.
During 2017-18, Guerra paced the Sharks with six Top-5 finishes, including a memorable win at the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Championship this past April. The junior also made the cut as one of 30 semifinalists for the prestigious Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award. Prior to his SSC Men’s Conference Championship, Guerra added a win back in February at the Saint Leo Invitational before closing with year with an impressive scoring average of 71.09. According to GolfStat, Guerra finished the year ranked as the No. 17 player in the country.
Mason raised his game to another level in 2017-18, consistently playing as the No. 2 option in the NSU lineup. In 11 tournament appearances as a junior, Mason posted a scoring average of 72.24, scoring at par or better in 11 of those rounds, including a season-low 66 at the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional. The Birmingham, England native recorded three Top-10 finishes alone last spring, claiming fourth at the Saint Leo Invitational in addition to a pair of ninth-place ties the Southeastern Collegiate and The Battle at the Shores. Mason concluded the year ranked as the No. 24 player in Division II.
NSU was one of six SSC members to have at least two players recognized, as 13 total players were honored throughout the league.
