To conclude the winter 2012 Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Lecture Series, George Kakoti, Ph.D., LL.M., associate professor in the college, will present a talk titled “Truth, Justice, and the State in the ‘Ticking Bomb’ Era: A Critique of ‘Enhanced’ Interrogations, Drones, and Other Post-9/11 Initiatives.”

Abstract
Since 9/11, a new justice paradigm has emerged that has tilted the delicate balance between public safety and due process further in favor of the former. The new normal includes “enhanced” interrogation techniques against suspects and extra-judicial killings of unindicted enemies in foreign lands. In this talk, Kakoti will discuss the legal, moral, political, and practical implications of embracing such aggressive strategies.
