Next Faculty Lecture to Explore
Historical Relationship Between China, Tibet
As part of the Faculty Lecture Series, hosted by the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, Tim Dixon, J.D., associate professor and coordinator of history/politics in the college, will present a talk titled “Truth and Power in China-Tibetan Relations.” Dixon will speak on Thursday, Nov. 17, from noon to 1:00 p.m., in the Alvin Sherman Library, Second Floor Gallery.
This lecture will explore the historical issues of Tibet’s relationship with China, and the domestic and international significance of China’s treatment of Tibetans and other national minorities in the areas adjacent to the present-day geographic region called Tibet.
How does the Tibetan Government in Exile affect Chinese policy? Why does China adamantly deny Tibetan autonomy or independence? What is the true status of Tibet in international affairs? Dixon’s talk will explore these questions.
The Faculty Lecture Series draws from the knowledge and expertise of more than 120 full-time faculty members within the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. The series explores the faculty’s diverse areas of interest in the arts, humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, and biological sciences. These talks are free and open to the public.
