Exhibition on Identity by Northern and Southern Printmakers

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Performing and Visual Arts will host This Is Who I Am: North | South Print Exchange, an exhibition of prints by 12 artists from South Florida and Philadelphia regions, Nov. 1 through Dec. 3, 2010. The artwork will be displayed simultaneously at NSU, in Gallery 217 of the college’s Performing and Visual Arts Wing in the Don Taft University Center, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia.

For the exhibit, each of the featured artists created a 14-piece series of same-sized prints that share a common theme or context, in this case personal identity. Identity is also the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences 2010–2011 academic theme.

The exhibition is a collaborative effort between Barbara Ryan, M.F.A., assistant professor in the college, and printmaker Fran Crum from PAFA, who met at the 2010 Southern Graphic Council International Conference in Philadelphia. Six printmakers from the south and six from the north will contribute work to the exhibition. At the conclusion of the displays, two of the series will remain in both the Division of Performing and Visual Arts collection and PAFA’s Printmaking department archives.

Gallery 217 is open Wednesdays from noon to 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m., or by appointment. On Saturday, November 6, from noon to 2:00 pm., the division will host a printmaking symposium, also in Gallery 217. Printmakers from the South will speak and answer questions about their work at the event. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
