MELBOURNE, Fla. – Devin Conn‘s second scoreless outing of the season has resulted in his second Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week award, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Conn set the tone on the mound in Thursday’s series opener against Rollins, as the Sharks eventually cruised to their second straight sweep of an SSC opponent. The sophomore scattered just three hits, all singles, in seven innings of work while striking out nine and walking one in the 11-1 victory. He allowed only one of those three hits through the first five innings, and retired nine straight batters until the Tars snapped the streak with two away in the top of the sixth.
Through five home starts this season, Conn has posted an earned run average of 1.54 to go along with 57 punchouts and only six walks. He’s failed to permit an extra-base hit in four of those outings.
The Sharks have now won eight consecutive SSC ball games and 14 of 17 overall. They’ll put the streak on the line when they hit the road Friday for the first of three against No. 24 Saint Leo.
