Celebrity Bowling Tournament to Support HCBE Scholarships and More

Cliff Floyd Bowling Tournament

Sport and Recreation Management students in NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship are playing a major role in planning the Fourth Annual Cliff Floyd Foundation Celebrity Bowling Tournament, scheduled for Sunday, April 24th, at SpareZ in Davie from 1 to 4 p.m.

The HCBE students, under the direction of Nancy Olson, M.Ed., M.S., participating faculty, have planned a fun-filled afternoon featuring Cliff Floyd, a 17-year Major league baseball veteran and All Star player, and many of his fellow 1997 World Series champion Miami Marlins. Other professional athletes, including NFL alumni, are expected to participate in the bowling challenge.

The tournament will feature music and prizes as well as a silent auction and raffle. Top male and female bowlers will receive bowling pins autographed by all the celebrities.  There are also prizes for the Best Dressed and Most Enthusiastic teams.

The Cliff Floyd Foundation is focused on helping keep kids off the streets and encouraging them to become productive citizens. A majority of the proceeds from the bowling tournament will support RBI, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities, a Major League Baseball youth program which provides the opportunity for children in disadvantaged areas to participate in organized baseball.

The event also will continue the funding of Cliff Floyd scholarships for two HCBE Sport and Recreation Management students. Peter Finley, Ph.D., assistant dean for undergraduate affairs, and Jeffrey Fountain, Ph.D., associate professor of sport management, have served on the event’s planning committee.
