Laraysa Nugent, a spring graduate of the Criminal Justice program in the Department of Justice and Human Services in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) participated in the poster presentations at the Conference for the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) in Denver, CO. The conference was held March 29-April 2, 2016. Her poster presentation title was “Spatial analysis of uniform crime reports, crime clearance rates, and officer entry-level salaries.”
According to the department, this was the first time an undergraduate in the criminal justice major presented at a national conference. Nugent just completed her last courses at the end of this term. Her faculty advisor was Kendra Gentry, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department.
“Presenting at the ACJS conference was both an exciting culmination of my studies and an intensive broadening experience,” said Nugent. “I showcased a rough draft of my presentation at the Undergraduate Student Symposium and gained insights of strengths and weaknesses of my research. The USS provided invaluable constructive criticism of both my poster and my oral talking points. I believe presenting at ACJS laid the groundwork for my future research in graduate school through networking opportunities.”
